Thanks to everyone who stopped by my website in the last few days to kick the tires. I received a lot of excellent suggestions and a few compliments as well. According to Google Analytics, the site received over 1,500 page views in the last 3 days alone.
I’ve got a few more ideas up my sleeve for the coming months but it feels good to get the initial launch out of the way. Please feel free to drop me a line or leave a comment with your thoughts on it.
I’m not sure if any of you are in the market for cameras or lenses but in the last few days Nikon has really bumped up their prices to adjust for the weak dollar. That’s bad news for someone (me) who was planning on picking up a wicked cool wide zoom. It’s $1699 now vs the $1450 it was a day ago. Not cool. I guess I be pinching my pennies a litle tighter.
Caio!

After much trepidation, I’ve just launched my new website. It’s a vast improvement over my prior site offering a much slicker interface and a emphasis on the images. If you get a chance, please take a look at www.whitleyphoto.com.
By the way, this is primarily the reason that I’ve been remiss in posting to this blog since Christmas. With any luck, we’ll get back to our regularly scheduled programming. Thanks to everyone for their patience.

So I just dropped in some coding that allows my photo galleries to display in full screen. Hopfully this will give potential clients an idea of the quality of the digital files. I shot and edited the images and I was even impressed at how well the colors popped on a large display. Viewbook is a great back end solution for digital image galleries.

So I got a couple of calls from today inquiring about 2009 weddings and it seemed like they weren’t really sure what they wanted to ask me. Of course, it’s my job to sell myself and my services but I was suprised when they asked about the style of photography that I shoot. Pictures definately speak louder than words and I believe they would have looked at my galleries before they even called. Believe me, I am not complaining about getting calls from potential clients, but these left me wondering if I’ve missed something on my website. While I know it’s early on and I don’t have many followers at this point, if any of you have suggestions where I could improve my main site (www.whitleyphoto.com) please let me know.

I didn’t get to blog about Josh & Jill’s wedding at Lakewood Ranch Country Club (since this blog didn’t exist then) but here are a few of my favorites of the day:
You can see so much joy in this one…it just captures the rapture of two people in love…

I love the textured old world feel of this one…
Jill looks so content…

I’ll be taking the next few days off of my day job. I hope to get a little Christmas shopping done and catch up on some things that I’ve allowed to build up. Next week, I’ll be in Tennessee somewhere near the Kentucky line. I can’ t remember where the family actually got the cabin this time around but hopefully I can post some pictures because it promises to be very quaint.

While I’m sure that you got the idea from my prior post, my prime motivation for starting this blog is to promote my career as a wedding photographer. Even if it fails miserably, perhaps I can have still have a little fun. I’ve been shooting weddings for several years, however my marketing has been word of mouth until just recently. At the beginning of 2008, I decided it was time to formally go into business and launch a website, get the business cards and make a real effort to plunge headfirst into a career that I love. Since my formal launch, I’ve been lucky enough to shoot around seven weddings (with four scheduled for 2009) and numerous portrait sessions. I’ve reinvested virtually all my profits into more equipment and educational materials in an effort to really give my clients the best images possible. I think that I naturally fall into the artistic, fashion and photo-journalistic category of shooters which blends well with wedding photography.

In late October I was asked to shoot a conference for the National Christian Counselors Association. They recently posted some of the photos. While I don’t specialize in conference photography, it was a enjoyable event with pleasant people attending. The conference was in beautiful Orlando, Florida however the organization’s headquarters is in Sarasota, Florida which is just south of Manatee county. We enjoyed the beautiful weather and made it to Downtown Disney more than a few times.
